Advice of Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم to Mu’aadh bin Jabal رضي الله عنه

It was narrated from Mu’aadh ibn Jabal رضي الله عنه that the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم took his hand and said: “O Mu’aadh, by Allah I love you, by Allah I love you.” Then he said, “I advise you, O Mu’aadh, do not fail following every prayer to say:

اللَّهُمَّ أَعِنَّي عَلَى ذِكْرِكَ، وَشُكْرِكَ، وَحُسْنِ عِبَادَتِكَ

“O Allah help me to remember You, to give thanks to You and worship You in the best manner.”

Narrated by Abu Dawood and al-Nasaa’i ; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood.

Du’a- I’m in a hurry?!

Narrated Abu Hurayrah رضي الله عنه : The Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “There is no man who prays to Allah and makes du’a to Him, and does not receive a response. Either it will be hastened for him in this world, or it will be stored up for him in the Hereafter, so long as he does not pray for something sinful, or to cut the ties of kinship, or seek a speedy response.” They said, “O Messenger of Allah, what does seeking a speedy response mean?” He said, “Saying, ‘I prayed to my Lord and He did not answer me.’”

(Tirmidhi- Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani )

Fardh+Nawafil= Acceptance of Duas

Abû Hurayrah – radiallâhu ’anhu – relates that the Messenger of Allâh sallallâhu ’alayhi wa sallam said:

“Allâh – the Most High – has said: “Whosoever shows enmity to a friend of Mine, I shall be at war with him.My servant does not draw near to Me with anything more beloved to Me than the Fardh(obligatory duties). And My servant continues to draw near to Me with the Nawafil (optional) actions, so that I shall love him. So when I love him I am his hearing with which he hears, his seeing with which he sees, his hand with which he strikes and his foot with which he walks. Were he to ask something of Me, I would surely give it to him; and were he to ask Me for shelter, I would surely grant him it.”

(Sahih Bukhari)

Dear sister

I heard you were feeling a little low. I’m worried about your health- your spiritual health. You do know when your body  gets sick you should take some medicine to cure yourself, and then rest up to gather your strength and once you feel better you have to take care of yourself by taking  a healthy diet and doing some exercise, so that you do not fall ill again.

I want to share with you a similar cure for the soul. Believe me, it is tried and tested!

–          Do take a daily dose of the Quran

Say: “It  (the Quran) is for those who believe, a guide and a cure.” (41: 44)

–          Rest up and gather your strength

Verily, in the Dhikr of Allah do hearts find rest .

(13: 28)

–          I know when u feel low you don’t feel like doing anything, but a splash of cold water on your face will make you feel refreshed, so perform wudhu and stand up to pray. This gentle exercise will get your body moving and will release all the tension in your body. Your heart rate will settle into a beautiful gentle rhythm and your mind will clear up.

O you who have believed, seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with the patient. (2: 153)

–          Catharsis is extremely beneficial.

And when My slaves ask you concerning Me, then (tell them), I am indeed near. I respond to the call of the one who calls when he calls Me . So let them obey Me and believe in Me, so that they may be led aright.

(2: 186)

–          And don’t forget to take  a healthy serving of Quran daily once you feel better

So when the Qur’an is recited, then listen to it and pay attention that you may receive mercy (7: 204)

I hope and pray this advice helps you recover completely and maintain high spirits, Bi-idhnillah!

Tawfeeq

It is reported by Ahmad from Anas that the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) said,“Do not become amazed at anyone until you see how his life ends, for a person may work all of his life or a portion of his life in righteous deeds that were he to die upon it he’d enter Paradise, but he diverts and does evil deeds. And a slave may spend a portion of his life doing evil that were he to die upon it he’d enter Hellfire, but he diverts and does righteous deeds. And if Allah wishes good for a slave, he utilises him before his death.” They said, ‘O Messenger of Allah! How does He utilise him?’ He said, “He grants him tawfiq to perform righteous deeds, then he takes his life therein.”

“O Turner of the hearts, direct our hearts to Your obedience.”

O Turner of the hearts, make our heart firm upon Your Religion.”

“Our Lord! let not Our hearts deviate (from the truth) after You have guided us, and grant us Mercy from you. Truly, You are the Bestower.”

How to seek forgiveness

Narrated Abu Huraira:

The Prophet said, “None of you should say: ‘O Allah! Forgive me if You wish,’ or ‘Bestow Your Mercy on me if You wish,’ or ‘Provide me with means of subsistence if You wish,’ but he should be firm in his request, for Allah does what He will and nobody can force Him (to do anything).”

(Sahih Bukhari, Volume 9, Book 93, Number 569)

Dua

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The slave will receive a response so long as his dua does not involve sin or severing of family ties, and so long as he is not hasty.” It was said, “What does being hasty mean?” He said: “When he says, ‘I made dua and I made dua, and I have not seen any response,’ and he gets frustrated and stops making dua.”
